| I seems to have collected a few chess-playing comedians together :-)
Back end issues aside.... when the re-write is complete a few cosmetic tweaks to the front-end will be apparent. If you want to spoil the surprise and not wait for however many months it's going to take to complete, have a look at this sneak preview...

This is just a static image, so don't complain that it doesn't do anything!

| | | | | Web Browsers - IE, Firefox, Chrome
|
Chess On The Web is currently tested using IE (ver 6 and 7) and Firefox. As Google have recently launched their own web browser, Chrome, I've done a few tests to check the functioning of this website in this new browser. All appears fine except for the display of the borders around the boxes. This is just a minor formatting issue so I won't be fixing this just yet.
As some of you are aware Chess On The Web is undergoing a re-write. This will result in a radical change to the underlying processes but not to the basic look and feel of the site. Having already checked IE, Firefox, Chrome and Opera, I'm confident all the minor formatting bugs will be resolved. However, if you spot anything that doesn't work correctly, please drop me a note at admin@chessontheweb.com

| In the next few days the automatic timeout of tournament games will be turned on. This is a vital feature to ensure that tournaments don't stagnate when players fail to complete games. The process to action the timeouts will run on a schedule throughout the day. As such games that pass their game time will not immediately timeout, but could remain active for a few hours. Players will still be able to claim timeouts as soon as the time is up.
In addition there will be automatic timeouts on non-tournament games. This is purely for housekeeping purposes and will only apply to games that have been domant for many months.
Please feel free to comment on these changes.

| Update 14th Oct 07 - Players Page
|
I have installed an updated version of the Players Page.
http://www.chessontheweb.com/player/home
The aim of this update is to provide a means of finding players to challenge. The player list can be filtered on when the player was last active, the number of completed games and if the player is accepting challenges. The page can be sorted on all the columns, except Player Name (something for the future). Click on the column headings to change the sort sequence.
You will be able to find your position on the list by clicking the Find Me link, and by looking at the bottom of the page. Regardless of the filters you have selected, if you are logged in you will appear on the list. This is to show your relative position if you were to meet the filter conditions.
If you have any suggestions/opinions on these changes please feel free to comment.

| | | | | Announcement : 10th March 2007
|
Dear Players,
As you would have noticed by now there has been some changes made to Chess On The Web over the weekend. The most important of these changes is the addition of the Forums. The Forums are being provided to allow players to communicate with each other and with the administration of the web site. The forums will be moderated and any posts that are deemed to be unsuitable will be removed. Guidelines on how the forums will be moderated will be provided soon.
Now that the majority of the development on the forums are out the way we will be focusing on the tournaments. The touranments is the piece of work that I've been looking forward to completing for some time now and it should be ready within the next few months.
I know there are lots of little enhancements that need to be made to the site. I will use the forums to communicate the progress of these changes. Please feel free to make suggestions on changes you would like.
Regards
