Tournaments - Update 25th July 2007

As I haven't made any changes to the site for a few months I feel it's time to give an update on development. Tournament development is well on it's way to completetion. I estimate it's about 70% complete. I'm taking my time in order to test each part of the process thoroughly. Changes for the tournaments involve changes to the code that controls the chess board. I wouldn't want to make any mistakes with something so central to the site!  If all goes well this should be ready in about a month and a half.

Next on my list of development is to update the Player Profile Page (adding a rating history and better links to games) and the Players Page (sorting and searching functions). If you have a preference on which of these I should tackle first let me know. I tend to think the Players Page will be next.... being able to find players that have been active recently and are accepting challenges should make some of you happy.

Regards

Time Limits in Tournaments

Where can we find info on the various timeouts used in the tournaments?  Some have a number.  Is that days?  Others seem to be a total elapsed time for the entire game, and I can't seem to glean from the system what that time is!

The simplest thing would be to use a single time control on all tournaments, however I understand that people have differing preferences, and that shorter and longer timeouts will attract different users.

Perhaps listing the various timeouts, and a symbol for each on the tournament home page, might clarify and help us decide which events are suited to our schedules.

Also still a bit puzzled about the scoring?

Oops!  I discovered quite by accident that the time control in any game may be checked by hovering the cursor over the time line on the game page.
