Blitz (fast) games

Hi arieszodiac,
Before Stoney answers please let me drop my opinion.
This is a perfect "correspondence" chess web. There are hundreds of chess sites, but none like this.
The philosophy of correspondence chess is quite the opposite of the blitz one, and if this site becomes a common chess web, it will never be the same again.
Please let it be original.

blitz games

I appreciate Jvilas pov but I'd also have to admit that I'd love to play some of the players here in realtime. I would suggest however that players be aloud to pick the time limit for all the moves in the game...

blitz games

i would also like to play some players in real time. I love the site but if there is a bad thing to say it will be that players tend to agree to a game then dont move for days. This might be a good idea!!

jvila, thank you for the comments!

arieszodiac, I have no plans to add blitz games to the site, but it might be something that happens eventually.

Probably the best thing to do without altering the site is for 2 players to agree to play their entire game at one sitting, setting their move time to '0' and game time to '1'. Maybe Stoney could allow us to set our game time to less than 1 day. And if anyone breaks their agreement as hd has said, they risk losing on time out.

I like both the correspondence and the blitz chess games. Weather we will have a blitz games here or not it's okay for me as long as there is a forum. The forum is too slow here. There are only a few chess players posting at the forum.

Blitz Games

I would not particularly be for Blitz games here at the moment. This an excellent correspondence Chess site. There are already numerous 'dual purpose' (Correspondence & Blitz) and Bitz only Chess sites. I feel that adding Blitz Chess here at present (or near future) would not be for the best. Better to updates the existing strength of Correspondence Chess with Game Notes and Analysis Board.

I intend to focus on correspondence chess, i.e. slow play. Improving on what's here already here will keep me busy for some time to come.

Blitz Games

A one day time game limit, no move time, would in effect force players to complete the game in one sitting.  Of course it wouldn't be real blitz, but more like a OTB game, with a long time control.  I don't know what parameters are available without altering the site software, but 1 day or shorter would fit the wishes of folks wanting real time games.

One time limit I found interesting was one used in at least one tournament.  14 days for the entire game, with no move timeout!

This, in the correspondence world, is blitz.  At first it was annoying, but it requires that you note the time of day your opponent usually logs on and moves.  Otherwise, you may move every day, but if 18 hours elapses before you know it is your move, your 14 days disappears almost before the opening is over.  If you have any such games it is wise to log on at least every 6 hours and have your analysis done and move ready.

If you really wanted to put the pressure on, you could have a tournament with a one day game time limit.  All of the speed freaks could have at it in that one.  I suggest a Saturday or Sunday, when most folks could devote the entire day to that tournament.

A one day time game limit, no move time

Yes, woodpusher would seem a reasonable compromise if easily implemented for the players who wish for quicker games.
